La Chataigne Farm
The wine farm, La Chataigne, has belonged to the Parkfelt family since they moved to Franschhoek from Gothenburg, Sweden in 1972. La Chataigne is today run by Richard and Julie Parkfelt. It is a working farm, situated 7 km from Franschhoek village. As cottage guests, you can walk along the river bordering the farm, meander through the vineyards and absorb the stunningly beautiful surroundings. Later, relax on the stoep (verandah) and sip a glass of wine from the very vineyards spread out before you.
La Chataigne Wines
We bottle only a fraction of our grapes under the La Chataigne brand, making a total of about 15,000 bottles of red, white and rosé wines. We are serious about our wine making and very selective. Our style ranges from classic elegance to fresh and fruity, but we're always mindful of ultimate balance and being accessible to both pocket and palate.
Our guests have a choice of three quaint self-catering cottages, set within metres of the Franschhoek River. The cottages are very comfortably fitted for self-catering. They have well-fitted kitchens and bathrooms, and there are fireplaces for those cold winter nights. Of course, there are braai (BBQ) amenities and each cottage has north and south facing verandahs. For hot summer days, there's a swimming pool close by.
